In response to the most recent Ibrox controversy, Chris Sutton criticises the “dangerous” Rangers.
Chris Sutton blasted Rangers for criticising Willie Collum following the VAR incident at Ibrox,
claiming that they were setting a dangerous precedent for Scottish football.
Sutton continued, “The Ibrox club is using the saga to keep the pressure on the referees down the line and
to divert attention from their own issues after losing another Old Firm derby.”
The former Celtic striker urged Rangers to concentrate on the factors under their control and to hold other
players accountable for their mistakes or Cyriel Dessers for the opportunities he lost at Parkhead.
On January 6, Sutton criticised, saying, “For me, it was a blame game, a deflection tactic, after they fell
short in another big match against Celtic,” in his Daily Record column.
Blame Willie Collum, blame everybody else, and take little responsibility for the things they can manage.
There’s a race for titles, so you have to pick your battles.
They made the wrong decision with Willie Collum, and Scottish football didn’t need it at the moment.
As far as Rangers supporters are concerned, Willie Collum is the one who needs to take responsibility.
Cyriel Dessers isn’t at fault for passing up a guilt-edged opportunity or other players.
The Rangers are really in a legitimate title race, so they should focus on the things they can control.
Sutton makes a valid point.
The persistent whining and screaming over Collum’s bizarre decision to not award a penalty at Celtic Park
won’t alter anything, despite the fact that the arguments put up to support the judgement only made
matters worse.
Both the outcome and Rangers’ position behind Celtic in the league standings won’t alter.
But rather than getting caught up in small-time referee drama, Philippe Clement and his group ought to
concentrate on that.
The concerns and queries were legitimate and warranted, but now that they have been addressed,
attention must shift to ensuring their continued participation in the hunt for the title,
which will call for composure and clarity of purpose.
Despite the off-field problems, Clement will undoubtedly keep his players focused on the task at hand,
but they also need to acknowledge that they need to keep getting better if they are to take the title
away from the Collum saga.
